Pursuant to the provisions of Section 204 of the Community Charter, the District of Sechelt will be holding a Review Panel in regard to parcel tax assessment rolls. There are three different parcel taxes that MAY be charged on a property:
- The Community Recreation parcel tax is levied and collected to meet the annual cost for the debt servicing of Regional District debt for the Community Recreation Facilities Service. (Bylaw 577).
- The Water parcel is levied and collected to fund capital expenditures relating to the Regional District’s water infrastructure. This parcel tax is calculated as a function of parcel size and is levied against all parcels within the Regional Water Service Area. (Bylaw 422).
- A parcel tax to assist with the cost of providing the service of sewage collection and disposal within the Sewer Specified Area for the District of Sechelt.
A person may make a complaint to the parcel tax roll review panel on one or more of the following grounds:
(a) there is an error or omission respecting a name or address on the parcel tax roll;
(b) there is an error or omission respecting the inclusion of a parcel;
(c) there is an error or omission respecting the taxable area or the taxable frontage of a parcel;
(d) an exemption has been improperly allowed or disallowed.
The parcel tax roll will be made available to the public for inspection commencing Friday, February 8, 2019. The Parcel Review Panel will meet on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at 2pm in the Community Room to consider any complaints received.
