Mayor Darnelda Siegers

Mayor Siegers has served Sechelt as a Councillor since 2011 and was elected Mayor in 2018. Darnelda and her husband, Adrian, moved to Sechelt from Alberta in 2009.

With a passion for life-long learning Darnelda has a diploma in Business Administration, a Bachelor of Education Degree (with double majors in Mathematics and Business Education) and recently completed an Executive Certificate in Local Government through Dalhousie University.

Darnelda has worked as Secretary Treasurer for a school board, taught high school mathematics and business education and has worked as a software implementation specialist. She currently works as an independent mortgage broker.

With a deep commitment to her community Darnelda, has given her spare time to the Seniors Planning Table, Sunshine Coast Housing Committee, Sunshine Coast Homelessness Advisory Committee, Sechelt Library Board,Planning and Community Development Committee, Finance, Culture and Economic Development Committee, Public Works, Parks and Environment Committee, Coast Community Builders Association and Sechelt Chamber of Commerce.

Councillor Janice Kuester

Councillor Kuester and her husband moved to Sechelt in 1996, made it home and began raising a family here.

Janice is the manager of Custom Flooring Centres and an active volunteer in the community. 

She is the Treasurer of the Sunshine Coast Cycling Club and a volunteer for the Gibsons Grind Road Ride every year. Janice studied Chemistry and Biology at the University of the Fraser Valley. In her spare time she bike rides, paddle boards and camps with her family.

Councillor Tom Lamb

Councillor Lamb was elected to Council in October 2018 and previously served as a Councillor in from 2011 to 2014.  

Tom was born and raised in Sechelt and graduated from Elphinstone Secondary School. After owning and operating several businesses on the Coast he retired in 2017. 

Tom has coached a number of sports teams on the Sunshine Coast including soccer, baseball and hockey. 

Tom is married and has three children and three grandchildren.

Councillor Matt McLean

Councillor McLean was born and raised in Sechelt. 

He studied mechanical engineering at the University of Waterloo and is current studying business at Capilano University Sunshine Coast. Prior to becoming a councillor Matt was the Executive Director of the Sechelt Downtown Business Association and Executive Director of the Coast Car Co-op. 

In his spare time Matt enjoys riding his bike through the many local trails.

Councillor Brenda Rowe

Councillor Rowe moved to the Sunshine Coast in 1996 where she raised two boys. 

Brenda graduated from Okanagan College with a nursing degree and has worked at the Sechelt Hospital (formerly,St. Mary’s Hospital) since 1996. As an RN Brenda has had several positions at the hospital and now works as Coordinator of Home & Community Care. 

Volunteer work in the community includes not only Minor Hockey, Seniors Planning Table and PAC Chair at West Sechelt Elementary but also co-founding two non-profit organizations. Kids for Kids Promoting Education Society provides education and agriculture programs in Kenya and Rwanda. The Ruby Slipper Fund provides financial support to those experiencing a cancer diagnosis, as well as equipment purchases for the palliative care program.

Councillor Eric Scott

Councillor Scott moved to Sechelt in 2013 with his wife and two sons to get back to small town living.

Eric is a commercial pilot with an aviation/ project management background. He has experience with aviation industry trade association boards dealing with policy and government at many levels.

Eric is involved with the 858 Skookumchuck Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron as a Volunteer Instructor and Familiarization Pilot. He is an Air Cadet alumni and now has a son in the program. Eric loves the outdoors and is always hiking, kayaking, or exploring on dirt bikes.

Councillor Alton Toth

Councillor Toth was born and raised in Sechelt and is now raising his young family here.

After completing a construction electrical apprenticeship program in Vancouver, Alton moved back to Sechelt to enjoy a slower pace of life.  He owns and operates the Sew Easy shop downtown. Alton’s volunteer work includes Scouts Canada and the Sechelt Downtown Business Association. 

This is Alton's first term on Council.
