Councillor Darnelda Siegers
I was re-elected to a second term on Council in November, 2014. My educational background includes a Diploma in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Education Degree with double majors in Mathematics and Business Education. I worked as a Secretary-Treasurer for a small School Board in Alberta prior to returning to the University of Alberta, as a mature student with three young children, to get my teaching degree. I taught high school Mathematics and Business Education for a number of years before accepting a position as a Software Implementation Specialist for an educational software company. That position allowed me to work and travel throughout Canada and internationally for a number of years and was instrumental in my choice to move to the Sunshine Coast.
Outside of my Council duties, I work as an Independent Mortgage Broker locally and throughout British Columbia and Alberta. My husband of over 35 years (Adrian) and I moved to Sechelt in the spring of 2009 from Calgary, where we have 3 adult children and 3 grandchildren.
I am a voracious reader and enjoy cooking, baking, and preserving food. I believe that food security is important for the future of the Sunshine Coast. Music has always played an important role in my life and I am excited to be able to contribute to the cultural vibrancy of the Coast. With my commitment to life-long learning, I bring a range of knowledge, curiosity, enthusiasm and experience to my role as a District of Sechelt Councillor.
