Sechelt, BC – Education Minister Rob Fleming announced a new $11.2 million capital project for West Sechelt Elementary today. The existing portables are to be replaced by a 145 seat, six classroom addition, as well as a neighbourhood learning centre with a child care facility with up to 24 seats. The project is expected to complete in 2021, with the child care facility opening in 2022.
Mayor Siegers attended the announcement, along with Councillors and District of Sechelt staff, and commented that, “It is so great to see this expansion coming to West Sechelt. The school has been running over capacity for some time. The new classrooms and new child care spaces will make a big difference for families and the greater community.”
The event was attended by students, teachers, School District 46 board members, shíshálh Nation, MLA Nicholas Simons and others.
